"The creation of art is not the fulfillment of a need but the creation of a need. The world never needed Beethoven's Fifth Symphony until he created it. Now we could not live without it."

Louis I Kahn

Why the Arts?

Participation in the arts, such as a choral group promotes community connectiveness, helping to reverse the trend toward social isolation that plagues contemporary society. Besides building social capital  that can help bridge major societal barriers such as race, religion, class and ethnicity.

Why the Arts?

As an industry, the arts generate revenue by attracting tourism, keeping local entertainment money in the community, employing workers, earning income through ticket sales and promotions, and recycling that income back into the community. By drawing tens of thousands of concertgoers, choruses help secure patrons for local businesses, contributing to the revitalization of downtown city centers. In cities from Detroit and Seattle to Newark and Reno, community leaders have invested in new performing arts venues and programs for urban renewal.

Why Choral Groups?

The power of choral music lies in the fact that the voice is an integral part of what it means to be human part of our shared experience and thus part of our spirit. Singers are able to make music anywhere, at anytime, with fewer barriers to performance than other forms of music. Thus, choral musicians and their audiences are more closely connected.

Why Support the Chorale?

A bigger slice of the philanthropic pie for choruses could increase contributions choruses make to their communities and raise the profile of choral music through innovation in outreach, enhanced artistic initiatives, and additions to the repertoire. Every chorus in North America would benefit from the flourishing of the art form and the communities that support them would reap ample artistic, civic, economic and spiritual rewards.

How Can We Support the Arts?

Besides supporting arts groups individually, you can register with Arts4nevada.org. It is a collaborative movement with a single purpose: increase statewide funding for the arts in Nevada.
